Patricia DeCara Obituary

Patricia Louise DeCara, 88, of Monarch, passed away peacefully on Sunday May 22, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 7, 1934 in Uniontown, a daughter of the late William and Anna (Skuban) Machesky.

Pat graduated from South Union Township High School in 1952. She attended the Uniontown Hospital School of Nursing and graduated as a registered nurse in 1955. Pat worked at the Uniontown Hospital until 1971. She was active with organizing her nursing class reunions every year.

Pat belonged to the former St. Vincent de Paul R.C. Church, Leisenring, where she was an active member of the church council and Christian Mothers. She was a vital part of the annual church bazaars, cooking in the kitchen making the famous fried dough and haluski.

Upon St. Vincent’s closure, Pat became a member of St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, Connellsville.

Pat was devout in her faith and to her family. She religiously prayed the rosary and often said at least 17 rosaries daily; one for each of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her beloved late husband, Sam.

Pat was a member of Open Doors for the Handicapped (ODH), a craft club, a ceramic club, and the Monarch Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxillary. She enjoyed baking and making many different traditional ethnic foods and homemade Easter eggs every year. During the holidays, Pat and Sam would make and deliver fruit baskets and flowers for those who were homebound.

Pat was always caring for those around her and those less fortunate. Her family was her pride and joy. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Pat is survived by her children,  Samuel DeCara (Dawnetta) of Connellsville, Maurita DeCara-Villaneuva (Joe) of Connellsville, and Kristi DeCara of Connellsville; grandchildren, Tyler DeCara (Emily) of New York, Sean DeCara (Mallory) of Latrobe, and Tristan Kozel of Houston, TX; great-grandchildren, Luca DeCara of New York and Edison DeCara of Latrobe; step-grandchildren, Justin Villaneuva (Cassie), Amanda Patton (Tom), and Brittany Villaneuva; step-great-grandchildren, Addison Parfitt, Emma, Bentley and Chase Villaneuva, and Joziah Patton; brother, William Machesky of Uniontown; brother-in-law, Joseph Borytsky of Fairchance; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Rose, Jeanne, Joanne, Dwyer, and Beth; and special lifelong friend, Pauline Faucett.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel DeCara, in 2002, and sisters, Rita Jyachosky and Veronica Borytsky.

Family and friends will be received in the PAUL G. FINK FUNERAL HOME, INC. 418 North Pittsburgh Street Connellsville, PA 15425 on Thursday from 2pm – 4pm, with the Rosary being held at 3:30pm, and from 6pm – 8pm and on Friday from 11am until 12:30pm when Prayers of Transfer will be held.

A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow in the St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, Connellsville, with Fr. Julius Capongpongan as Celebrant.

Committal will follow at St. Vincent de Paul R.C. Cemetery, Leisenring.
