Karen M. Lowe

Karen M. Lowe, age 84, passed away December 20, 2022 at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska after a brief illness.

Karen was born on September 24, 1938 in Connellsville, PA, to Gordon and Elise (Thomas) Lowe.

She graduated from Connellsville High School and the Uniontown School of Nursing and furthered her education at the University of Florida.

Karen began her nursing career with Dr. Ken Richardson, a noted ophthalmologist in Pittsburgh, Pa. He moved his practice to Alaska and asked the staff to continue to work with him. She decided to join the new practice (Ophthalmic Associates) and drove up the Alcan during the summer of 1972 in her small Karmann Ghia, which everybody called the “little turtle.” Karen worked as a surgical nurse at this practice until her retirement.

She is survived by her nephews, Dennis (Pamela) Lowe of Vanderbilt, PA and Daniel (George Smith) Lowe of Palm Harbor, FL; great-nephew, Patrick (Heather) Lowe of Connellville, PA; great-niece, Sarah (Patrick) Preziotti of Elkridge, MD and great-great niece Isla, as well as several cousins.

In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her brothers, Gordon Jr. and Oron Lowe and her sister-in-law, Catherine (Herchko) Lowe.

The family would like to thank Karen’s Alaska family for making her a part of their lives for over 50 years.

Funeral arrangements are under the care and supervision of the PAUL G. FINK FUNERAL HOME, INC. 418 North Pittsburgh Street Connellsville, PA 15425.

Funeral services will be held privately with the family and interment will be private.
