Joseph Raymond Zavatchen, 67, of Connellsville, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024 at home. He was born July 1, 1956 in Connellsville, a son of the late Joseph A. & Mary (Dunaway) Zavatchen.
Joey was a graduate of Geibel High School, class of 1975, followed by a degree at a technical school in drafting. He also was a 4th degree member and previous Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Slovak Club and Polish Club.
He was a past member of the Thursday night K of C Bowling League and Dart League. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a District Manager for both the Tribune Review and Daily Courier for many years.
He is survived by his companion, Debby; step-daughter Christie and grandchildren Kharma and Azi; 5 sisters and 2 brothers; Mary Margaret (Howard) Wiltrout, Michael R. (Jeanne) Zavatchen, Rita (Ernest) Burnsworth, John P. Zavatchen, Susan Burnsworth, Anne (Chuck) Ferrick, and Michelle Thrower (David); 17 nieces and nephews; 19 great-nieces and nephews, and 1 great-great nephew; aunts & uncles- Michael F. Zavatchen, Nancy Zavatchen; Margaret “Cookie” (Robert) Flockvich; Regis Kavlick and many cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his great grandparents Michael Zavatchen & Margaret Leona McDonald; aunts & Uncles, Patrick Zavatchen, Mary Alice Nickelson, Margaret Jane (Robert) Shaffer, Margaret Zavatchen and Ann Kavlick; and brother-in-law Rodney A. Burnsworth.
Family and friends will be received in the PAUL G. FINK FUNERAL HOME, INC. 418 North Pittsburgh Street Connellsville, PA 15425 on Sunday from 1pm - 4pm and 6pm - 9pm and on Monday from 8:30am until 9:30am when Prayers of Transfer will be held.
The Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 10am in the Immaculate Conception R.C. Church with Rev. Mark Dunmire as Celebrant. Committal service and interment will follow at St. Joseph R.C. Cemetery, Connellsville.
