Eugene Edward ("Gene") Steich

Eugene Edward “Gene” Steich, 79, of Connellsville, died with his family by his side on Monday, December 28, 2020 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV after a short battle with COVID-19.

He was born on December 8, 1941 in Monarch, son of the late John and Helen (Fetsko) Steich. 

Gene was a veteran serving in the  U.S Army and in Germany during the Vietnam War. 

He retired from United States Steel, Maple Creek Mine as a coal miner and experienced a long and fulfilling retirement. 

He enjoyed the sport of trapshooting and participated in local leagues and travelled to regional tournaments to compete in the sport he loved. 

Gene will be missed by his family and friends and all who loved him.

Surviving are his loving wife of 51 years, Bette (Pyle) Steich; two sons, Jeffrey Steich and wife Elaine and James Steich and partner Alejandro Suarez; his granddaughter, Margaret Steich; sister, Marlene Hunt; brother, Kenneth “Benny” Steich and his mother-in-law Roberta Pyle.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother John “Bo” Steich; sister Karen Vaslavsky; and his father-in-law James Pyle.

Funeral arrangements are under the care and supervision of the PAUL G. FINK FUNERAL HOME, INC. 418 North Pittsburgh Street Connellsville, PA 15425.

Because of the danger to people who could contract COVID in a group setting, funeral services will be private with no visitation.

The Steich Family would like to thank the medical staff at West Virginia University Medicine/Ruby Memorial Hospital who are heroes and took great care of Gene. 

We will never forget their kindness.
