Alfred “Zolie” Zoltan Palankey, 82, of Dunbar Township, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.
He was born October 21, 1940 in Connellsville, the son of the late Alfred Joseph Palankey and Mary Elizabeth (Mulac) Palankey.
He played football for Dunbar Township High School where he graduated with the class of 1958.
Zolie worked at the Anchor Hocking Glass Plant for 44 years. Throughout the years, he also helped raise beef cattle on the family farm and tended bar for the family business.
He was a member of the former St. Vincent De Paul Roman Catholic Church, and a current member of St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, in Dunbar.
Some of his favorite pastimes were farming, fishing, and hunting.
When he was not spending time outdoors, he enjoyed checking on his local friends, neighbors, and everyone at the township building.
He also enjoyed driving his small green truck all over the family farm.
In his spare time, Zolie loved to work the puzzles in magazines and he spent a lot of time with his devoted companion of 3 years, who he loved dearly, Karen Leighty.
He cherished the little things like feeding and watching wildlife from his back porch. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The pride Zolie had in his own children was not spoken of directly, but felt in many ways.
He is survived by his children, Lisa Palankey Joseph, Skip Palankey and wife Jody, and Lynne May and husband Charlie all of Connellsville; grandchildren, Connor Palankey, Justine Haines and husband Christopher, and Lauren May; Great grandchildren Harper and Hadley Haines, all of Connellsville; loving companion Karen Leighty of Dunbar.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Donna Jean (Rhodes) Palankey and his beloved uncle Edward R. Palankey.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and supervision of the PAUL G. FINK FUNERAL HOME, INC. 418 North Pittsburgh Street Connellsville, PA 15425.
In following with Zolie's wishes, no viewing or services will be held and interment will be private.
