Naomi Welsh-Lentz, 101, of Connellsville, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday April 11, 2021.
Naomi was born February 10, 1920 in Indiana County, the daughter of the late Oliver and Myrtle (Miller) Deemer.
Naomi attended Connellsville Church of God.
Naomi was a very hard worker. In her earlier years, she cleaned houses for many of our small town business owners. In the 1960’s, her wages for an 8 hour day of cleaning a 2-story house was just $5.00. Her work not only included general housework, but also scrubbing down walls and also doing floors on her hands and knees.
Also she scrubbed porches when it was so cold her rag would stick to the railings. Many times after her 8 hour shift, she would be asked to serve at their parties.
She was proud to help and know she gave her full-days work.
Anyone knowing Naomi will remember her as being a very quiet, kind-hearted, little lady.
She enjoyed telling her stories of her childhood days and how she received her nickname “Boots”.
As soon as her dad returned from working in the mines, she would step into his boots. She enjoyed sewing and working in her yard with her many flowers.
Naomi married Carroll Welsh, the father of her 4 children, John Welsh (Barb) of Wheeler, Shirley Hall of Everson and Norma Lee Shallenberger (Terry) of Bullskin Township.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll and her second husband, Roy Lentz and her much loved and never to be forgotten son, Ted Welsh, whom passed away August 2020 and daughter-in-law, Gerri Welsh; grandson, Timmy Welsh.
Naomi is also survived by her 18 grandchildren (which includes her special grandson, Bret Shallenberger that she spent much time with); 30 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
Naomi will also be very much missed by her 2 beautiful cats, Tommy and Dirty Face.
Naomi’s family would like to give a special thank you to her faithful caregivers, Jessica Spike, Brittany Machesney and Martie Cain that have become part of her family over the past 2 years. Also all the help from Theresa and Crystal from Home Instead along with the care from nurses from Amedisys Home Health and Hospice.
Family and friend will be received in the PAUL G. FINK FUNERAL HOME, INC. 418 North Pittsburgh Street Connellsville, PA 15425 on Wednesday from 2pm – 8pm and on Thursday from 10am until the hour of the funeral service at Noon with Pastor Nelson Confer and Martie Cain officiating.
Interment will follow at Green Ridge Memorial Park, Connellsville.
