Mary Alice (Zavatchen) Nickelson

Mary Alice Nickelson, 88, of Connellsville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday November 2, 2021 at Scottdale Manor.

She was born July 18, 1933 , a daughter of the late Michael and Margaret Leona (McDonald) Zavatchen.

She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School and attended Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, Connellsville

For many years, Mary Alice was employed through Frick Hospital where she was a switchboard operator.

After retirement, Mary Alice worked as a front desk receptionist at the Super 8 Motel in New Stanton.

One thing that many knew about Mary Alice, was that she loved to play the lottery and have the chance to win big.

Mary Alice is survived by her 3 children, Cathy Hixson of Smithton, David Nickelson and wife Deborah of Somerset, and Scott Nickelson and wife Gayle of Belle Vernon; grandchildren, James Hixson, Jamie Hollis, Stacey Nickelson, Jacob Nickelson, Adam Nickelson, Mason Nickelson, Cassandra Nickelson; 9 great-grandchildren; 3 great-greatgrandchildren; brother, Michael Zavatchen and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Mary Alice was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph Zavatchen and Patrick Zavatchen and sister, Margaret Shaffer.

Funeral arrangements are under the care and supervision of the PAUL G. FINK FUNERAL HOME, INC. 418 North Pittsburgh Street Connellsville, PA 15425.

At the request of Mary Alice’s family, visitation and services will be private and interment will be privately held at Green Ridge Memorial Park, Connellsville.
