Joseph Lloyd Brooks, 71, of Connellsville, passed away after a lengthy illness on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg.
He was born August 23, 1954, in Connellsville, a son of the late Calvin and Dolores (Pawlikowski) Brooks.
He was a graduate of Connellsville High School and a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Connellsville.
Following high school, Joe was employed at Crown Cork & Seal, where he worked as a forklift operator and later as a group leader for 45 years until his retirement.
Joe was a dedicated firefighter who faithfully served the Connellsville community and surrounding areas. He was a member of the Connellsville Township Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years and served as Chief for 20 of those years. To this day, members of the department continue to refer to him as “Chief” out of respect. In addition to his service with CTVFD, Joe was a member of the Fayette County Firefighters Association, the Southwestern Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs Association, and the Western Pennsylvania Firemen’s Association. He was also a founding member of the Fayette County Hazmat Team.
Joe was known as a simple man who did not care for anything flashy. He enjoyed playing the lottery, getting his lottery tickets, and visiting casinos. He took great pride in doing maintenance work and home improvement projects, including renovating his own home, helping family members, and assisting friends whenever needed. Above all, Joe’s greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren, of whom he was extremely proud. He made it a priority to attend their competitions, dance recitals, and sporting events whenever he was able to.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Laural (Cossell) Brooks; his children, Dr. Joseph L. Brooks, Jr. (Masi Noor) of Keele, England, Janet L. Parrill of Connellsville, and Michael J. Brooks (Tonya) of Connellsville; his grandchildren, Stephanie Parrill, Tanner Brooks, Paisley Brooks, and Everly Brooks; his brother, Robert Brooks (Deborah) of Connellsville; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Beverly Brooks, and his brother, Michael Brooks.
Family and friends will be received at the PAUL G. FINK FUNERAL HOME, INC., 418 North Pittsburgh Street, Connellsville, PA 15425, on Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., where a memorial ritual will be held at 7:00 p.m. by the Connellsville Township Volunteer Fire Department. Visitation will continue Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m., at which time Prayers of Transfer will be held.
A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 10am at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Connellsville with Fr. Peter Guardiano as Celebrant.
Committal services and interment will follow at Green Ridge Memorial Park.
Joe's family would like to extend a special thank you to the Connellsville Township Volunteer Fire Department for all their love and support and to Fresenius Kidney Care for their compassionate care.
