James F. ‘Doc’ Daugherty, 76, of South Connellsville, passed away on Wednesday July 5, 2023 at Excela Latrobe Select Specialty Care Hospital.
He was born October 20, 1946 in Connellsville, a son of the late Frank Edward and Gertrude Elizabeth (Walker) Daugherty.
Doc was a graduate of Geibel Catholic High School and after graduation he entered into the military where he proudly served his Country in the United States Air Force until his honorable discharge.
He was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, Connellsville, where he was a member of the choir and helped alongside his sister, Ruth, with the I.C. Christian Mothers Mercy Meals.
Doc opened and owned Fayette Appliance in 1986, which is still operating to this day. He also ran Fayette Amusements for over 20 years, until he sold the business 10 years ago.
He was an active member of the Morrell Volunteer Fire Company for over 60 years until his passing. At Morrell, he proudly served as President for over 40 years and he was a Ladder Captain.
In addition to being a firefighter, Doc was an EMT and he was highly involved with the Red Cross, where he served as a preceptor and taught CPR, AED and First Aid.
Doc was someone that made sure everyone else was taken care of before himself. He truly knew what it was to serve and be of service to others and he will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Doc is survived by his cousins, Kathy Walker, Mike Walker, Anny Kennedy, and Tom Daugherty; his two best friends and caregivers, Scott and Buck; his beloved dog, Charger and many other family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, Doc was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Ann Daugherty.
Family and friends will be received in the PAUL G. FINK FUNERAL HOME, INC. 418 North Pittsburgh Street Connellsville, PA 15425 on Sunday from 2pm - 4pm and 6pm - 8pm, with a Memorial Ritual to be held by the Morrell Volunteer Fire Company at 7pm. Additional visitation will be held on Monday from 8:30am until 9:30am when Prayers of Transfer will be held. The Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 10am in the Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, Connellsville with Rev. Fr. Paul Lisik as Celebrant. Committal will follow in St. Joseph R.C. Cemetery, Connellsville with full Military Honors accorded by the Amvets General George C. Marshall Post #103.
