Gilbert R. ('Gil') Layman, III

Gilbert R. ‘Gil’ Layman III, 50, of Connellsville, passed away on Saturday March 12, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born December 16, 1971, a son of Betty Jean (Burkett) Layman and the late Roy H. Layman.

He graduated from Connellsville Senior High School in the Class of 1990 and he was a member of the Faith Bible Church.

Gil was employed as a flagger for many years through Flagger Force until his retirement.

Gil enjoyed being outside and working on cars. He was known as a backyard mechanic to his family and friends because he knew just how to fix just about anything on a car.

Gil is survived by his wife of 11 years, Brandi Lynn (Basinger) Layman;  his children, Corey Basinger and girlfriend Sierra, Madison Dressel and fiancé Brandon, and Sierra Rai Dressel and boyfriend Rob; granddaughter, Nicole ‘Nini’ Basinger; mother, Betty Jean (Burkett) Layman; sister, Betty Lynn Huffine and her husband Kenny and their son Andrew; niece, Jessica Hill and her family; nephew, Eric and his family; mother-in-law, Roxanne Younkin (Rocky); father-in-law, Paul Basinger, Jr. (M.J.) and grandmother-in-law, Betty Heisterman.

In addition to his father, Gil was preceded in death by his grandparents, Pearl and Jess Burkett and Edith Layman and his sister, Sherry Chandler.

Family and friends will be received in the PAUL G. FINK FUNERAL HOME, INC. 418 North Pittsburgh Street Connellsville, PA 15425 on Wednesday from 1pm until the hour of the funeral service at 7pm with Pastor Lee Maley officiating.

Interment will be held privately at a later date in the Hillview Cemetery.

A Celebration of Gil’s life and dinner will be held on Saturday March 19th at 2pm in the Christian Church Disciples of Christ – 212 Pittsburgh Street Connellsville, PA 15425.
