Donald Harkins Baumann, 77, of Mount Pleasant, PA, passed away at home on January 13, 2026, surrounded by his family with his loyal dog Quiggley by his side.
Born July 20, 1948, he was the son of the late Ernest P. Baumann and Josephine Harkins Baumann. He graduated from East Huntington High School in 1966 and proudly served in the United States Navy for 23 years, retiring on April 1, 1989.
He later continued his service to fellow veterans through his work for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
In his younger years, Don enjoyed bingo, refinishing antique furniture, and building model trains – hobbies that reflected his patience, craftsmanship, and appreciation for things with history. He was also an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. After the passing of his beloved wife of 50 years, Margaret Lee “Peggy” Baumann, he found comfort and camaraderie along with the brotherhood of veterans at American Legion Post 446 of Mount Pleasant, where he shared stories, friendship, and support.
Don is survived by his daughter, Kristen Lipps (John Lipps), and his son, Phillip Baumann (Lindsay Baumann). He was proud grandfather to Chelsea Queer (Jeffrey Queer) and Eric Harshman, and to Nicholas and Brianna Baumann. His great-grandchildren include Seth and Casey, children of Chelsea, and Tyler, son of Eric.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Sondra Spaugy and Lori Hatfield.
Following Don’s wishes, there will be no viewing. Military Funeral Honors will be held at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies at a later date privately with the immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a veterans’ organization in his memory.
“Fair winds and following seas, sailor. Your watch has ended.”
